ELAC Site Council

Have a say at Pine Hill

Want to make a difference at Pine Hill? Join one of our school committees and help shape important decisions that keep our campus safe and ensure every student has what they need to learn.
We’re looking for parents to serve on:
  • School Site Council (SSC) – helps decide how to best use our school resources.
  • English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) – supports our English Learner program and advises the Site Council
Both groups meet three times per year, and members serve a two-year term.
We currently need three parent/community members for both Site Council and English Learner Advisor Council.
If you’re interested, please call the office or let Principal Saundi Phillips know. Elections will be held soon!

By completing Data Confirmation, you will:
  • Review and update emergency contacts and medical information
  • Confirm important school and district policies
  • Approve required forms, including technology use and media release
  • Ensure you receive the latest school updates and communications
The process is quick, secure, and can be done from any device:
  1. Go to https://southbayuesd.aeries.net/student/LoginParent.aspx
  2. Log in with your parent account.
  3. Click on Data Confirmation and follow the prompts.
  4. Be sure to complete the process for each of your children.
Completing this step not only helps us keep accurate records, but also makes sure your child has uninterrupted access to school resources, schedules, and communication.

Community School grant update for South Bay Union

I’m excited to share some great news from the California Department of Education! A new study from the Learning Policy Institute shows the powerful impact of the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP).
The research confirms what we’ve seen in action—community schools are improving attendance, reducing suspensions, strengthening school culture, and boosting academic outcomes, especially for historically underserved students. Superintendent Thurmond celebrated this milestone, noting that when schools, families, and communities work together, students have the support they need to truly thrive.

Ideas for Parents Dealing with Teen's Cellphones and Social Media

Tips from psychologist Jean Twenge.
  • You're in charge; parents set the rules versus negotiating or following peer norms.
  • Start kids with "dumbphones" with calling, texting, and music but limited apps.
  • Advocate for bell-to-bell smartphone bans during the school day.
  • No social media until age 16 (or older)
  • Give the first smartphone with the driver's license.
  • Beware of laptops, gaming consoles, tablets, and other devices; all screens pose risks.
  • Use robust parental controls.
  • Create no-phone zones - for example, the dinner table and family vacations.
